Dentures in Columbia, MD

We know how important it is to feel good about your smile. Missing teeth can impact your daily life, but dentures can help bring back comfort, confidence, and function. Dentures are removable or implant-supported prosthetics designed to replace missing teeth. Whether you're missing a few teeth or an entire arch, dentures can restore your ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Full dentures replace all of the teeth in the upper arch, lower arch, or both. Partial dentures are ideal for patients who still have some of their natural teeth but need replacements for missing ones. At UMG Family Dentistry, we offer both detachable dentures and implant-held dentures, crafted to fit comfortably and look natural. Our team will work closely with you to find the best type of dentures for your needs and lifestyle.

The process for dentures at UMG Family Dentistry begins with a consultation where we evaluate your oral health and discuss your tooth replacement options. If dentures are right for you, we start by taking precise scans or molded impressions of your upper and lower arches. These impressions are sent to a high-quality dental lab that customizes your dentures for a comfortable fit. Depending on your choice of partial dentures or complete dentures, the prosthetics are made from durable, lightweight resin. For patients choosing implant-supported dentures, titanium posts will be surgically placed in the jaw to anchor the dentures securely. Once your dentures are ready, you'll return for a fitting appointment as we ensure your new teeth feel comfortable. We'll make any necessary adjustments and go over instructions on how to clean your dentures so your new smile stays fresh and healthy.

What to Expect After Dentures

When you first receive your dentures at UMG Family Dentistry in Columbia, MD, your mouth will go through an adjustment period. It’s common to notice sore gums, extra saliva, or slight speech changes, but these usually improve within a couple of weeks. Eating soft foods and practicing small bites can help you adapt more comfortably during this time. Cleaning your dentures daily and removing them at night allows your gums to rest and stay healthy. As swelling subsides, your dentures may feel a little loose, and adjustments at our office can quickly restore comfort. Within a few weeks, most patients are speaking, eating, and smiling with confidence as their new dentures feel more natural.

At UMG Family Dentistry, we believe in the importance of providing custom solutions that suit each patient's unique needs. Dentures offer many advantages for those who have lost teeth, including:

  • Affordable solution for missing teeth
  • Restored self-confidence
  • Easy maintenance and cleaning
  • Improved facial aesthetics, preventing the sagging appearance that often follows tooth loss
  • Clearer speech
  • Enhanced digestion, as dentures restore proper chewing ability
  • Natural-looking results with high-quality materials

Fantastic dentist and practice - Dr. Ung, is very personable and caring. She works with you on and listens to your concerns. My mother is 93 and looked like she needed three teeth pulled and get fitted for dentures. Once the doctor had a better view of her teeth she determined that she could save one with a crown. My mom was thrilled. She didn't have much pain and is recovering well. Waiting for the crown to come back and then mom can get scanned for her dentures. All of the staff are great and it is a very warm and inviting atmosphere at the office. Note, there is also urgent care and physical therapy services at the location.

Ideal candidates for receiving dentures include patients who are missing one or more teeth or plan to undergo extractions. Dentures are designed to restore dental function, allowing you to enjoy a wide range of foods and helping to preserve the natural shape of your face. These restorations tend to work best when the gums are healthy and there is sufficient bone structure to provide support. During your consultation, our dental team will carefully evaluate your oral health and discuss your goals, needs, and budget. With this insight, we’ll help determine if dentures are the right solution for you and recommend the type that best fits your individual situation.

How long will it take to adjust to my new dentures?

Getting used to dentures takes a bit of patience—but most patients adjust in a few weeks. You might notice extra saliva, slight changes in speech, or mild soreness initially. These are totally normal. Dr. Ung and the team at UMG Family Dentistry are here to support you through this transition—through tips, adjustments, and plenty of encouragement so your dentures feel natural again.

Can i still eat normally with dentures?

Yes! Once you’ve had a bit of time to adapt, your dentures will let you enjoy meals again. Start with soft foods while your mouth adjusts, then gradually reintroduce firmer textures. Cutting food into smaller pieces and chewing slowly helps. Dr. Ung will check in with you to make sure you’re eating comfortably and may suggest adhesives or fit tweaks if needed.

How much do dentures cost?

The cost of dentures depends on several factors, including the type of denture, the materials used, and any additional dental care needed beforehand. Dr. Ung will discuss all available options and provide a detailed estimate during your consultation.
