Veneers in Columbia, MD

At UMG Family Dentistry, our goal is to help you love your smile. Porcelain veneers offer a simple and effective way to fix cosmetic concerns, such as tooth discoloration, chipped teeth, gaps, or worn-down teeth. These thin, custom-made shells, also known as dental veneers, are bonded to the surface of your teeth to improve their appearance. The material is durable, often made from porcelain or e.max® porcelain, and designed to provide a long-lasting, natural-looking result. Whether you're dealing with stained teeth or other aesthetic issues, dental veneers can transform your smile. Contact our Columbia, MD practice today to learn more about how veneers can enhance your look.

We start by taking impressions of your teeth to design the dental shells, then remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth to ensure a good fit and proper bonding. When the custom veneers are ready, we will use a strong dental adhesive to keep them in place. We'll adjust and polish them to ensure they blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. You'll have three types of veneers to choose from. Porcelain veneers are a popular choice because of their natural appearance and strength. They mimic the light-reflecting properties of real teeth, giving you a bright, lifelike smile. E.max veneers are made from lithium disilicate glass ceramic. They're known for being extra strong and durable, making them ideal for long-lasting results. If you're looking for a minimally invasive option, Lumineers® may be for you. These are ultra-thin and often don't require any enamel to be removed before placement. The whole process is designed to give you a flawless and comfortable result.

This dental procedure can address a range of cosmetic concerns and is a popular choice for Columbia, MD-area patients looking for a long-term way to improve the look and feel of their teeth. UMG Family Dentistry offers this amazing solution that provides multiple advantages for enhancing your smile, such as:

  • Durable and long-lasting: With proper care, porcelain veneers and e.max veneers can last over a decade.
  • Stain-resistant: Porcelain veneers resist stains from foods and drinks, keeping your teeth whiter and brighter longer.
  • Natural-looking results: The veneer material is customized to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth, giving you a natural-looking smile.
  • Quick and effective: You can achieve a noticeable transformation in just a few visits.
  • Minimal tooth preparation: Only a small amount of enamel is removed to ensure a perfect fit for the traditional porcelain veneer.
  • Versatility: Veneers can address a range of issues, like discolored, chipped, gapped, or uneven teeth.

Refreshing experience - Dr. Ung and her entire staff were extremely pleasant, knew what they were doing, and didn’t rush me out of the door which is very important for me. Dr. Ung took her time and did an excellent job. She answered all my questions and made sure I understood what was happening every step of the way. I usually have poor experiences with dentists so this was a breath of fresh air. Highly recommend. Oh and they’re family owned and have a Physical Therapy side of the business which I’ll be checking out.

I am so glad Dr. Ung now has her own practice. I have been going to Dr. Ung for years and have followed her to whichever practice she has worked at. What makes Dr. Ung the best is she is kind and knowledgeable, but won’t make you feel bad when she explains issues with your teeth or different approaches or practices for you to have better oral health. I have been to other dentists that scold you or make you feel bad. Dr. Ung is the opposite. She explains the issues and consequences, but provides approaches to do better. She is a caring dentist that also has a gentle hand and tries to make the experience enjoyable. I have no worries when I have a dental appointment after seeing Dr. Ung. That is why I have followed her. She is that great of a dentist.

Ideal candidates for veneers typically have a few cosmetic dental concerns they want to address, such as chips, cracks, stains, gaps, uneven teeth, or signs of wear. To qualify for veneers, you should have good overall oral health, healthy gums, and no issues with teeth grinding (bruxism). When you visit UMG Family Dentistry for your consultation, our team will carefully examine your teeth and gums and review your dental history to ensure you are a good fit for veneers and can enjoy the full benefits of a refreshed, confident smile.

Is getting veneers painful?

No, most patients find the procedure to be comfortable and not painful. In many cases, we apply a topical anesthetic gel to ensure your comfort during treatment. Some patients may experience mild sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures for a few days as their teeth adjust, but this is usually temporary and can be managed easily with over-the-counter pain relievers if needed.

Are dental veneers bad for your teeth?

No, veneers are very safe when applied correctly by a qualified dental team like ours. When placed properly, custom veneers are a reliable and effective cosmetic solution. In rare cases where veneers are poorly fitted or too much enamel is removed, it could weaken the tooth or increase the risk of cavities, but we take every step to ensure your teeth remain healthy and strong.

How long should veneers generally last?

While veneers are not considered permanent, they can last 10 – 15 years or longer with proper care. By maintaining a strong oral hygiene routine, avoiding chewing on hard objects, and keeping up with your regular dental visits with our team, you can help extend the life and appearance of your veneers for many years.

Can anyone get veneers?

Most people with good overall oral health are candidates for dental veneers. However, individuals with gum disease, significant dental issues, or who suffer from teeth grinding (bruxism) may not be ideal candidates. We will assess your oral health to determine if veneers are the right option for you.

Do veneers look fake?

No, not at all. Our team carefully selects a shade and shape that blends naturally with your surrounding teeth and complements your unique features. We will also make adjustments during the fitting process to ensure your veneers look and feel as natural as possible.
