BOTOX® in Columbia, MD

Living with jaw pain, teeth grinding, or tension headaches can be frustrating and debilitating. At UMG Family Dentistry, our experienced team is excited to offer dental BOTOX to help you find relief and enjoy a healthier smile. BOTOX is a purified protein derived from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin. While it's widely known for its ability to smooth wrinkles, BOTOX in dentistry has become a powerful tool for treating various dental-related concerns. BOTOX works by temporarily relaxing muscles, reducing the strain and tension that can cause issues in the jaw and surrounding areas. BOTOX for dental issues focuses on improving function and relieving pain in the facial muscles connected to your teeth and jaw. The effects typically last 3 – 6 months, depending on the area treated and the individual's unique muscle patterns. For dental BOTOX in Columbia, MD, contact our team today to schedule a consultation and find out how you can enjoy a healthier smile with this muscle relaxer.

BOTOX treatment for teeth targets dental issues, like TMJ disorders, bruxism (teeth grinding), and jaw clenching. By injecting BOTOX into the affected muscles, we can help ease the tension that leads to discomfort and pain. This treatment can be a game-changer for patients who have not found relief from traditional treatments, like night guards or physical therapy. If you suffer from teeth grinding, for example, the constant movement of your jaw muscles can wear down your teeth and strain your facial muscles. BOTOX helps with teeth grinding by reducing the muscle activity that leads to grinding, helping to protect your teeth from damage, and offering relief from jaw pain and headaches. In addition to treating TMJ and bruxism, BOTOX may also be used to adjust the appearance of your smile. Patients who experience a "gummy smile" may benefit from a small injection of BOTOX, which can relax the upper lip muscles and create a more balanced, natural smile.

You may have some slight redness, bruising, and swelling in the treatment sites, but these symptoms will likely not be long-lasting. Our team may suggest that you avoid rigorous physical activity and avoid touching the treatment sites until after a day or so. Over the next 48 – 72 hours, you will likely begin to experience your smoother, firmer skin. BOTOX might offer up to four months of natural-looking, youthful enhancements for most people. Dr. Ung will decide how frequently you need treatments as part of a personalized plan to attain your aesthetic results. Our team can provide you with the estimated price of BOTOX treatments, but the cost typically varies depending on the number of units administered.

By incorporating BOTOX with dental work, our dental practitioners can tailor treatments that address your functional and cosmetic dental needs. BOTOX in dentistry offers a variety of benefits that go beyond its cosmetic reputation, such as:

  • Relieves TMJ pain: BOTOX for TMJ can significantly reduce discomfort caused by tight jaw muscles.
  • Reduces teeth grinding and clenching: BOTOX for teeth grinding helps minimize the stress on your teeth and jaw muscles, preventing long-term damage.
  • Prevents headaches and facial pain: The tension in your jaw can lead to persistent headaches. BOTOX can help reduce this tension and relieve the associated pain.
  • Treats a gummy smile: A small amount of BOTOX can soften a high upper lip, creating a more balanced smile.
  • Noninvasive and quick treatment: BOTOX injections are minimally invasive with fast results and little to no downtime.

Took all three of my kids (7, 9, and 12 years old) to UMG Dental and had a great experience! Dr. Ung was kind, thorough, and took the time to explain everything clearly to each child. The kids felt comfortable, and I really appreciated how well everything was handled from start to finish. Highly recommend!

Fantastic dentist and practice - Dr. Ung, is very personable and caring. She works with you on and listens to your concerns. My mother is 93 and looked like she needed three teeth pulled and get fitted for dentures. Once the doctor had a better view of her teeth she determined that she could save one with a crown. My mom was thrilled. She didn't have much pain and is recovering well. Waiting for the crown to come back and then mom can get scanned for her dentures. All of the staff are great and it is a very warm and inviting atmosphere at the office. Note, there is also urgent care and physical therapy services at the location.

Individuals who are interested in a noninvasive solution to smooth Crow's feet, forehead wrinkles, or frown lines may be prime candidates for BOTOX services at UMG Family Dentistry. This can also be a good solution if you have obvious "11" lines between the eyes (glabellar lines) that give you a withered or older appearance. BOTOX Cosmetic has gained a reputation with younger women and men, too. Although younger adults in their 20s and 30s might not yet notice the signs of aging, BOTOX may be used as a preventive solution to get ahead of the aging process by temporarily reducing or delaying the proliferation of facial lines.

How many BOTOX treatments will I likely need for dental concerns?

The number of BOTOX treatments needed depends on your unique dental-related issues, such as jaw tension, teeth grinding, or TMJ discomfort. Dr. Ung at UMG Family Dentistry will evaluate your condition and recommend the right number of sessions based on your symptoms and goals. Many patients find that treatments every 3 to 4 months help maintain relief and improve comfort.

Can I combine BOTOX with other dental or cosmetic treatments?

BOTOX works well alongside other dental procedures to enhance your overall oral health and appearance. For example, if you suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding), BOTOX can relax the jaw muscles while Dr. Ung addresses any dental damage with restorative care. BOTOX can also be paired with cosmetic treatments like teeth whitening or facial rejuvenation services to help you look and feel your best.

What’s the difference between BOTOX for cosmetic use and dental-related treatments?

While BOTOX is widely known for smoothing wrinkles, its use in dental care focuses on relaxing overactive jaw muscles to reduce pain and prevent damage caused by clenching or grinding. This therapeutic use can improve function and comfort, not just appearance. Dr. Ung will help you understand how BOTOX fits into your dental care plan.
