What Is Dental Bonding and Contouring?
Every smile has a story. If small imperfections are affecting your confidence when you smile, dental bonding and contouring at UMG Family Dentistry might be the easy solution you need. With a personal, hands-on approach, our team can help you achieve a smile that feels complete. Whether you're dealing with a chipped tooth, uneven edges, or gaps between your teeth, this treatment can restore your teeth to a more polished appearance — often in just one visit. Dental bonding and contouring is a versatile cosmetic dental procedure that can fix minor issues quickly and effectively. Using composite bonding dental material, the same material used for tooth-colored fillings, we can enhance your smile by reshaping or repairing problem areas. Dental bonding provides a cost-effective and straightforward alternative for those who prefer to avoid more extensive procedures, like veneers or crowns. This technique is ideal for front teeth, as well as teeth with cosmetic concerns elsewhere in the mouth. Book your consultation today to learn more about dental bonding and how we can enhance your smile with this versatile treatment.
How Does Dental Bonding and Contouring Work?
The dental bonding and contouring process is simple and can usually be completed in one visit to our office. There's no need for anesthesia unless you have specific concerns, such as anxiety or a sensitive gag reflex. The first step involves prepping the tooth. Our dental professionals will prepare the surface of the tooth by lightly etching it so the composite bonding dental material will adhere better. Applying the bonding material to the tooth in layers is the next phase. Each layer is hardened with a special curing light before the next one is added, ensuring a durable result. Once the material is in place, our team will expertly shape and contour both the bonding and your natural enamel to create a smooth, natural-looking finish. The process can also include dental cosmetic contouring where small amounts of enamel are sculpted to improve tooth shape or size. This is especially useful for those who want to correct minor issues without undergoing major dental work. Finally, the bonded tooth is polished to match the surrounding teeth for a seamless result.
What Can I Expect After Dental Bonding And Contouring?
After dental bonding and contouring, it's important to not consume staining drinks and food (like tea, coffee, and tobacco) for 48 hours. The bonding material can stain and chip, so don’t bite hard objects like hard candy, pens, and fingernails, and brush your teeth right after eating. Bonded and contoured teeth need to be cleaned like natural teeth with daily brushing, flossing, and mouthwash. Bi-annual cleanings at UMG Family Dentistry will help to remove stains from the composite resin. With good care, dental bonding can last up to ten years. During an annual dental exam, our team will help you decide if the dental bonding and contouring procedure should be done again to maintain your results.

UMG Family Dentistry Reviews
I had a great experience today during my first appointment at UMG Family Dentistry. Lady UMG, my new dentist, was so kind and informative. She came highly recommended by a fellow employee and I have no regrets! All of the new technology was amazing; hard to believe how far X-Rays have come and how small and effective the cameras are. Also it was so great to be able to see up close your teeth on a wall screen. I have never experienced this before! Technology has come so far. I look forward to my next appointment.
I had an appointment as a new patient and everyone was very polite from the front desk to the dentist! Every single one of my questions was answered THROUGHLY! I am looking forward to my next appointment and will be recommending my family to come here.
Nice and clean 👌 and very nice people ...
Best dentist in the DMV I live a hr away and will definitely be back!!! Woke up with unbearable tooth pain and by 3 it didn’t go away I searched on google and found a few places but they didn’t have any available then I came across this wonderful place that stays open a lot later than usual dentist and and believe it or not I was able to get a appointment the same day. Am I A Candidate for Dental Bonding and Contouring?
Dental bonding and contouring are excellent options for people with minor cosmetic dental concerns. If you have chipped, cracked, or uneven teeth, gaps between teeth, or discoloration that doesn’t respond to whitening treatments, dental bonding may be the perfect solution. It’s also a great alternative for those looking to avoid more invasive or costly procedures like crowns or veneers. However, it’s important to note that dental bonding is best suited for smaller, less severe issues. For more extensive damage or structural concerns, other dental procedures may be recommended.
